I’ve been getting a lot of comments (good) over the last few days about my weight. It reminded me of the first time it happened a few years ago and I remembered blogging about it then so I decided to look it up and give it another read. Strangely enough, a few years ago has turned into four, count’em, four freakin’ years and even more strange is that it has been four years almost to the day! My previous post was written on 11/24/2005 and today is 11/25/2009. Kind of sad that I’m still obsessing about the same thing after four years. :-)

Anyway, you can see the old post here. I have three more measly pounds to lose to reach my initial goal. Tomorrow is Turkey Day and that’s certainly not going to help matters!

The Blue Elephant got my business twice this weekend. I went Saturday after work and Sunday afternoon. I was supposed to have company with me on Sunday but he had to cancel due to his boss still being in town.

The food was good as usual. I had the same thing as last time except I opted for grilled prawns (picture) instead of fried. They were huge too! I also brought home a little dessert (picture). It looks nice, but wasn’t worth the extra calories. It didn’t taste bad, just didn’t taste great either.

So, that was my exciting weekend. I think I’m going to skip the lunches next weekend. All the hard work I put in during the week running around the compound is going to waste!

It’s been a while since I’ve written anything more than a few sentences or tweets so I thought I’d give it a shot again today for old times sake. I’m also trying to show the wifey a little more about Port Harcourt and what I do here since she always complains that she has no idea what my job is. This doesn’t deal with my job, (see tweet from yesterday for that) but it does pertain to Port Harcourt so I’ve nailed half of it. It also deals with food and she’s a food snob (j/k) so it should be right up her alley.

I got off work today at noon and headed for my new favorite spot in PHC, the Blue Elephant Restaurant. I’d been there before with some work folk, but never solo and never on a Saturday. Most people go there on Sundays with their family and eat, drink, swim in the pool (picture), and be merry. Today, at noon, it was a ghost town. I was the only patron and it was rather boring because there were no weird people to look at. Yes, most of the people (expats anyway) are weird. You have to have something wrong with you to work in a place like this.

The main reason I like this place so much is for their hummus with meat (picture). It sounds kind of gross but it’s great. They take typical hummus with olive oil, add some schwarma-tasting beef, pine nuts, and serve it up with some fresh, hot, pita bread for dipping. Good stuff Maynard.

The main course was next. This consisted of fried prawns (picture) and a side of Lebanese tabbouleh (picture). Normally the prawns come with chips but I was TRYING to be at least a little healthy and I opted for tabbouleh. I’m glad I did too because it was good stuff.

Since nobody eats fried prawns without sauce, I took regular old ketchup and mixed it with some Nigerian peppas (picture) for a hot-Nigerian-peppa-sauce. I was sweating by the time I was done.

So there you have it. My first solo-lunch at the Blue Elephant in Port Harcourt, Nigeria. Sorry about the picture quality. All I had with me was my work cell phone and the built-in camera on it is pretty shoddy. But, some pics are better than no pics at all!

Check out the link below. This guy is an “iPhonegrapher” in Tokyo. Pretty nice pictures using a pretty crappy camera.

I much prefer bats in the belfry.

Seriously, this damn thing slithered into our house and parked its’ now dead ass right in the kitchen. Thankfully, one of our neighbors came to the rescue and killed the evil sucker.

Guess that’s what floods do. Chase in all the evil riff-raff.
